Things got hotter and hotter for Vince and Julie in Dorchester. A minor, jealous contingent of the Boston mob almost kidnaps seven year old Julie a second time. She escapes, but becomes very nervous.
The two drive the new Chevy part of the way to Chicago, but Vince sees a newspaper at a checkout stand in a diner in Indianapolis where he and Julie had stopped to have breakfast. It seems that the family of the kid who beat Vince up in Atlantic City outside of Philadelphia and stole his first Electrolux sample is claiming that the kid died and Vince is being accused of manslaughter. The boy's family, the Scotts, are not well liked or trusted by the Willis cartel -- the cocaine cartel that kidnapped Julie originally -- but the Willis's cannot seem to get rid of them. They are much more violent than Bannister and the other Willises. Bannister is the old childhood friend (being followed by the newly formed DEA & FBI) who involved Vince in carrying cocaine for him, but did not okay the kidnapping of Julie and is now trying to protect the two of them. Bannister is in deep water, but never meant to hurt Vince or Julie.
The above image at is a representation of the mother of the little Mexican girl, Jacinta Garcia, Julie meets in Monterrey after she and her father cross the border in Laredo. He is running from the murder accusation without telling Julie why they have to go to Mexico. Vince leaves Julie with the family of this little girl, the Garcias, and he returns to Atlantic City in disguise to try and find out what is going on and free himself of this accusation. He was actually the one who was hurt in the fight, not the young boy, Davey Scott.
Julie learns Spanish from her new friend, Jacinta Garcia, and is delighted by Mexican donkeys, especially when she sees a little boy her own age driving a donkey cart in Monterrey. The photograph in our background is the desert outside of Monterrey, where Jacinta and Julietta wander around late at night minding other people's business and scaring themselves.
